Riding Brave: Top 3 Benefits of Journaling for Teen Equestrians
Why Journaling Matters for Teen Riders
Being a teenager is full on (I am only at the start of parenting a teenager and it's a learning curve!). Add competitive riding into the mix - early mornings, long days at events, juggling school, friends, and the pressure to perform - and it’s no wonder our young riders can feel stretched thin.
That’s where journaling comes in. It’s not just scribbling in a notebook - it’s a way to pause, breathe, and make sense of everything happening inside and outside the arena. It’s clarity in the chaos. And it’s exactly why I created The Rider’s Edge Journal - designed especially for competitive equestrians, and launching this month.
Here are my top three reasons journaling is such a game-changer for teen riders:
1. Confidence in Black and White
Competitions bring big emotions - the butterflies at the start, the frustration when things don’t go to plan, and the pure joy when they do.
When riders write down their wins (the big ones and the little ones), it reminds them how far they’ve come. Over time, those notes build a quiet kind of confidence - the kind you can flip back through on a hard day and think, “Oh yeah, I can do this.”
The Rider’s Edge Journal makes this easy, with space to track lessons, events, and results - so riders have their journey mapped out right in front of them.
2. A Safe Place for Stress
Let’s be honest - teens don’t always want to talk about how they’re feeling. But a journal? That’s their space.
It’s where they can get the nerves, the frustration, or the excitement out of their heads and onto the page. Writing it down makes it lighter, easier to handle.
Inside The Rider’s Edge Journal, they’ll find reflection prompts and monthly calendars to help untangle their thoughts, plan their weeks, and feel more in control of their riding journey.
3. Growth You Can See
Here’s the best part: journals don’t just capture moments, they show progress. Looking back, riders can see how much they’ve grown - not just in their riding, but in their mindset and connection with their horse.
With over 70 pages of planning, reflection, and goal-setting, The Rider’s Edge Journal is there to guide them through 12 months of training and competition. It’s more than record-keeping — it’s a celebration of growth, stride by stride.
Launching This Month
The Rider’s Edge Journal will be available in just a couple of weeks - made with competitive equestrians (and the horse mums who cheer them on) in mind.

Because journaling isn’t just about words on a page. It’s about building confidence, easing the pressure, and celebrating every brave moment along the way.
